My experience of a GCI task that I have completed

My experience of a GCI task that I have completed:

Hello, my name is Anirudh Raju and I am going to share my experience of a GCI task that I have completed. I registered for the competition on December 5, 2017. GCI consists of three phases. First, you must search for a task. Second, you must claim it and complete it. Third, you must convince the mentor to approve your submission. All these combined together will make you complete a task.

I claimed my first task which was hosted by Drupal. I am going to share my experience of that task. The basic aim of the task was to make the people aware of Open Source Softwares (OSS's). The Drupal Community had asked us to also make a mention of Open Source Organisations with examples. The time given for the task was three days. My mentor was Neeraj Pandey.

I claimed the task on December 19, 2017. I sat in one place and thought calmly what to do. Immediately, I opened my laptop and got to work. Many of my friends suggested using CCSearch for images. I got the images for my blog there. I started to type on December 20, 2017, after I finished setting up the layout on the previous day.

I had a tough time creating this as this was my first blog. The above image shows what and all I did to make my layout perfect. I referred to many YouTube videos for creating this. Gradually, I got a clear idea of creating a blog. GCI just acted like a platform for crafting my brain on this topic. I typed about OSS easily as I was very familiar in this field. I typed its definition and gave a brief account of how is it made available.

The next day, on December 21, 2017, I did many improvements to the blog. I wrote my next post which described Open Source Organisations. I gave an example of the Drupal Community itself. When checked, it had a total of three posts. I proofread it once and submitted the task to my mentor. It was quite a lengthy blog and was well organized.

I then immediately submitted the link to my blogspot to my mentor, 'Neeraj Pandey'. After an hour,
he replied. He asked whether I had read the docs for new GCI students but I hadn't read it. I went through it and submitted the link to my profile at Drupal. He then asked to mention GCI as an organization in my profile at Drupal. I did it and submitted the link to my profile at Drupal again.

A new mentor 'gvso' reviewed my task again. He mentioned that I must give more examples and credits to certain images and phrases. I did so and submitted the link to my blogspot. A new mentor, 'Matthew Lechleider' asked me to proofread it again as one of the statements was false. I did it and submitted the link to my blogspot again. Fortunately, he approved my work this time.

It was really a wonderful experience creating the blog. Then, I claimed a new task. After a day, I got to know that I will be receiving a certificate from Google for completing a task. The most wonderful part of this task was my Drupal profile. Once, I mentioned GCI as my organization, many people started to interact with me. They started to ask help from me for creating blogs for the Drupal Community.

It is the first time I am participating in GCI. I give all the credits to my mathematics teacher who sent me the link to register for this competition. For me, this is the first time I am participating in a competition hosted by Google. I hope I do well till I get satisfied and continue to do so till I am eligible for it. It is really awesome to participate in this competition.

Thank you!
